This trip is not just as a trek but also a tribute to the silver hut, veteran mountaineers and medical experts who were involved in this project. When the expedition was completed the silver hut was brought to HMI (Himalayan Mountaineering Institute) in Darjeeling by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa from Nepal and eventually it travelled to Chowrikhang in north western Sikkim. Now it stands proudly at HMI base camp as it did many years ago. On November 10th, 2000 veteran team member Jim Milledge, Norman Hardy, Michael Westmacott and Michael Gill organized a 40th reunion trek to this area. The trek to the Silver Hut at Chowrikang by veterans was a celebration and also a special and nostalgic trip. We relive every moment of the past trips as we make our way to this hut that has made its way into Himalayan folklore. |
