We have made this trip
not just as a trekking only, but an honour to the silver
hut and to the veteran mountaineers and expert medical
team who were involved in this project. When the
expedition was completed the silver hut was brought to
HMI (Himalayan Mountaineering Institute) in Darjeeling
by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa from Nepal and eventually it
travelled to Chowrikhang in north western Sikkim. Now it
stands proudly and perfectly at HMI base camp as it was
many years ago shining brilliantly on the high altitude
sunlight. After leading the 40 years anniversary of
Silver Hut expedition team in November 10th, 2000. It
was a successful and most memorable revisit trip led by
veteran team member Jim Milledge, Norman Hardy, Michael
Westmacott and Michael Gill the great mountaineers and
the pioneer of the high Himalayas. With all the historic
Himalayan figures attached to this, one and only silver
hut, makes this trek to Silver Hut at Chowrikang so
special. |
