Rolwaling & Tahsi Laptsa
Away from civilisation and unspoilt, the Rowaling area is truly “off the beaten track” experience. We begin our trek from Barbise and continue to upstream along the raging Tama Koshi through terraced fields, lush tropical forests and quaint villages populated by Brahmin and Chettris. We continue to ascend sparsely inhabited terrain and natural surroundings that have been relatively undisturbed. As we get closer to the imposing peaks the landscape changes completely and we now enter the Rolwaling valley that provides the toughest approaches to the Everst region. The Sherpa village of Simigoan perched high on a ridge truly reflects the transformation. From here on the trail winds through alpine forests and rocky inhospitable terrain to the old monastery in Bedding. Passing the final remnants of village dwellings, yak pastures and an enormous Glacier Lake we begin the ascent of the rigorous Trakarding Glacier and make our assault on Tashi Lapcha Pass a very demanding and demanding crossing. The crossing involves spending a number of days on rough glaciers, rocky screes, and snowfields and we may need to fix ropes on steeper sections to assist our porters on the more difficult sections of the trail.High up at 5755m the pass offers spectacular views of the Rowaling Range and the glacier valley below and sight of both the Rolwaling and Khumbu valleys. We gradually descend into the Khumbu region to complete this extreme adventure.
