Cho oyu
Cho Oyu, the world’s sixth highest mountain at 8,201 meters, lies on the Nepal/Tibet border and is the most frequented peak in the world. Interested in seeing how you do above 8000 meters? There is no better testing ground than Cho Oyu which could be the easiest 8000 m peak. Easily accessible and logistically straightforward to plan with an easy climbing route it could certainly be the first 8000 m you could climb. First climbed in 1954 by an Austrian expedition, the mountain was opened to climbing in the eighties. The North West Face, now considered the normal route, is fairly ssimple, with only a couple hundred meters requiring fixed rope that too low down the mountain. The success rate on Cho Oyu is higher than any other 8000 meter peak but it still poses challenges due to its height. Proper acclimatization is necessary and meticulous planning is needed to summit the peak. Apart from the physical challenges it peak offers terrific views over the Nangpa La to Nepal and the Khumbu valley. Like the 8000 meter peaks climbing Cho Oyu requires previous mountaineering experience and familiarity with high altitude at least up to 6000 m.
