Everest South Ridge

Mt. Everest that rises to an imposing 8,850 meters (29,030 feet) is the mother of all mountains. It has mesmerized and captured the imagination of people from all around the globe since its discovery and continues to do so even today. Climbing Everest is the ultimate dream of each and every climber and the mountain attracts hundreds of climbers every year who attempt to tame this colossal giant and realize their dream. Attempts to climb Everest began in the 1921, when the forbidden kingdom of Tibet opened its borders to outsiders. On June 8, 1924, two members of a British expedition, George Mallory and Andrew Irvine, attempted the summit and their names have become a part of mountaineering folklore. After of numerous attempts, Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay became the first people to stand on the elusive summit on May 29,1953. Since then, the South Col has seen over 1,000 ascents. It is by far, the most successfully climbed route on the mountain. We follow the popular route to the Everest Base Camp and slowly gain altitude to acclimatize and get ready for the real challenge. The Everest South East Ridge provide a series of challenges and gives the climb tremendous variety. The first major obstacle is the Khumbu Icefall which provides a number of challenges and tests the technical skills of a climber as we are made to negotiate a maze of complex ice terrain using ladders, fixed ropes and ice axes. We do a series of climbs between the camps to acclimatize meanwhile the support crew of Sherpas will shuttle between the camps ferrying the equipment. To undertake this trip you need to possess extensive mountaineering skills and technical knowledge with experience in handling climbing gear on your own. Previous experience over at least 6000 metres is necessary although experience on an 8000 meter peak would increase your chances of realizing your goal. The trip requires the members to be able to walk in high altitudes un-roped and be able and confident to move between high mountain camps without any supervision. Besides technical climbing skills and mountaineering knowledge you need to be self motivated, committed and determined and need to be strong mentally.
