Baruntse
Baruntse peak with ridges forms the icy wall between the Barun Valley, Hinko Valley and the Imjatse valley of the Khumbu area. The ascent from the Barun glacier is a remote adventure, culminating in a relatively short climb to the summit of this majestic 7000er. As a 7000 m peak the climb is not demanding technically and is essentially a simple snow and ice climb with some corniced sections. The ice cliff near the summit is the most difficult section of the climb that challenges the climber. Our expedition starts from Lukla on a quiet trail crossing several high passes and through the unspoiled forest of Hinku Valley. Adventure continues over the Mera-La to the upper Hinku basin in complete wilderness amidst the great snow peaks that surrounds our high camp near Panch Pokhari. The walk-in follows a picturesque and rarely trekked route, which passes through moraine and ice path. The higher camp leads at the foot of the Barun Glacier, from where most of the climbing is done. After the great strenuous climb, we retrace the journey back to Lukla for the spectacular flight to the bustling Kathmandu.
