Located on the fringes
of the Eastern Himalayas, Mt. Kanchenjunga - the third
highest mountain in the world - straddles the Nepal and
Sikkim borders. This route is virtually un-trekked and
away from the popular trekking routes of the country
thus giving you the opportunity to enjoy the unspoilt
charm and well preserved environment without the
distractions modern day life. Due to its distance from
the capital city and main thoroughfares the trek does
not draw an immense number of holidaymakers like other
areas do so you will have the whole of the region for
yourself to absorb. This wonderful trip starts with a
scenic flight with the Langtang, Everest and
Kanchenjunga range serving as constant companion, across
mid hills of Nepal and over the Gangetic plains of the
southern Nepal until we reach the unassuming airport at
Suketar on the foothills of Kangchenjunga. The trek to
the base camp offers visual delights and distinctive
cultural experiences as we tread along the trails of
this high country. We make our way across villages
untouched by the modern lifestyle. The trail snakes
through pristine rhododendron, oak and pine forests and
across small settlements scattered along the route
inhabited by different tribes offering a peek into
another interesting facet of route. As we trudge higher
up the landscape changes dramatically as greenery gives
way to small tenacious bushes and shrubs until you are
in the midst of glaciers and moraines. The main feature
of the trek is that it combines a visit to both the
North and South Base Camps on the Nepalese side.
