We
tread in the footsteps of famous mountaineers and make
our way into the realm of the Sherpas who have made a
name for themselves in mountaineering circles. The
airhead at Lukla serves as the gateway to this region.
The landing on a sloping airfield in Lukla is an
experience in itself and disembarking from the plane
gives a sense of excitement and apprehension. The trail
follows small villages and makes way though metal
suspension bridges over huge canyons until you reach
Namche in Sherpa heartland. It is not just the mountain
views that are amazing; the cultural experience is an
equally rewarding experience. Namche, the hub and most
populous village of this region is the commercial
capital of this region. People hawking their wares
during the Saturday market here offer a unique
perspective into the Sherpa way of life. A little
further up is the post card perfect Tengboche monastery,
the religious pulse of the region, set amidst one of the
most picturesque landscapes. A relatively arduous trek
you are rewarded with an awesome view of the tallest
mountain in the world within touching distance.
Prayer flags fluttering in the
breeze, whitewashed chortens, prayers walls against the
backdrop of giants like Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and
Everest in all its glory is an other worldly experience
and a sight to remember forever.
