The Everest region conjures images of tall imposing mountains and monasteries and this trek certainly provides plenty of that. We fly to the airhead at Lukla and follow the Dudh Koshi river valley to the Sherpa capital of Namche. It is interesting to experience the Saturday market in Namche where villagers from surrounding villages and traders from Tibet gather to sell their wares. It is a colourful and amazing event with people busy buying and selling. We spend some time here acclimatizing and exploring the surrounding areas before we head north the main Sherpa villages Thame and Khumjung. It is fascinating to see the local way of life and how their life is intertwined with the surroundings. We head north passing through scattered settlements until we reach Gokyo Valley blessed with two beautiful high lakes. It is gods own country. The views are nothing short of magical. The pristine blue lakes and the majestic himalayan hulks make the trip a feast for the eyes and rejuvenating for our spirit. We enjoy amazing views of the majestic Cho Oyu and other 8000 metres peaks of the region. The ascent of Kala Pattar, a must visit vantage point is another highlight of the trip. We can enjoy astounding views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and far away Makalu. We then descend to the main Everest trail and make our way back past the famous Tengboche monastery. Our return journey is via Namche Bazaar and finally to Lukla where we conclude this high journey that will leave an indelible mark in our minds forever.
