Over the centuries, pilgrims from all corners of the world have journeyed to Kailash believed to be the centre of the world to achieve enlightenment and cleanse themselves of their sins. Mount Kailash of the "the Precious Jewel of Snow", located north of the Himalayan barrier in Tibet is the spiritual centre for four main religions – Bon, Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. The four major rivers systems of the Indian Sub-Continent originate near Kailash. This trek follows the old pilgrimage and trade route over the Himalayan range from Western Nepal into the Tibetan plateau. Our adventure starts with flight to Simikot from where we trek to the Tibetan border across the 4325 m Nara La Pass. We take the slow to acclimatize and prepare ourselves for the parikrama around Kailash which is nothing short of an expedition that requires no mountaineering skills. We make a stop on the banks of Manasarovar Lake and enjoy the vast expanse of water and soak in the heavenly atmosphere. It is believed that a “kora” around the mountain and a bath in Manasarovar lake will wash away the sins of a lifetime. Time spent here is a journey to self discovery, a time to contemplate and find your inner shangrila in the midst of incredible scenery.
