Mustang, “The forbidden kingdom”, is truly a mystical kingdom that evokes a sense of mystery and magic. Opened to visitors only in 1992 it is a geographic extension of the Tibetan Plateau with wild, wind blown moonscape. It was founded in the 15th century by a Tibetan monarch who consolidated various small local chiefdoms into the Kingdom of Lo. Eventually Mustang was incorporated into Nepal but it remained isolated. Beautiful and wild beyond description, this area replete with myths and legends has charmed visitors since it was opened to trekkers. The unique culture, astounding landscape and its people provide a mesmerizing adventure. A restricted area with only a limited number of visitors making their way to this ancient kingdom, the region still remains exotic to the visitors. We start our trek from Jomsom, the airhead located at the base of the Nilgiri Mountains and trek into the heart of Upper Mustang. |
