Located in the far reaches of Northwestern Nepal Upper Dolpo is a wild, unexplored territory in the true sense. Our trip begins with a sweeping flight over the northwestern hills to the airhead at Juphal and trek through pine and cedar forests into the heart of Dolpo region. En route we are blessed with amazing views of the towering Dhaulagiri against some of the most breathtaking sceney. The entrance to Dolpo region lies beyond the Jangla Bhanjyang Pass at 4500m. At the head of the valley lie snow-capped peaks and the desolate Tibetan plateau beyond the pass. Protected from rain, the region beyond the pass is dry where the Dolpo inhabitants carve a living in the harsh surroundings by trading with nearby Tibet. The azure blue Phoksundo lake and the legendary Ringmo monastery of the pre-Buddhist Bonpo sect is our momentous destination. As the most remote and least developed district in Nepal, this trek into this untamed and wild realm is for those with a true sense of adventure.
