Chulu East (6200m/20341ft) is situated high above the Manang valley with breathtaking views across to the Annapurnas II, III and IV, Gangapurna, Glacier Dome, Dhaulagiri, Tilicho Peak and Manaslu. The climb is combined with the classic trek around the Annapurna massif, ascending the Marshyangdi valley and crossing the Thorung-La pass, before descending the Kali Gandaki valley and a flight to Pokhara. The climb is technically straightforward and, you should be familiar with the use of your equipment, crampons, harness, ice axe, tying knots and handling climbing ropes. Most of the climbing will involve walking roped together, including the glacial crossings.

TRIP DOSSIER

Day 01: KATHMANDU 1336m/4383ft
Arrival
Welcome to the Himalayas! Our staff will receive you at Kathmandu international airport and transfer you to the hotel where you will be briefed you about Kathmandu, the hotel, trekking, climbing and camping, some do's and don’ts along with other things that you might require to know, also you will be briefed about tomorrow’s half-day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu city.

Day 02: KATHMANDU 1336m/4383ft
Sightseeing tour
A half-day guided tour of Kathmandu, visit places of cultural, religious and historical importance and experience the sights and sounds of the city. Kathmandu is a medieval city, with an interesting history, where myths and legends blend seamlessly and modernism and traditionalism coexist in stark harmony offering a startling travel experience. The city has lots to offer to keen visitors. The tour can be scheduled in the morning or afternoon, to ensure everyone is well rested from previous day’s travel.

Day 03: NGADI 1150m/
5-6 hrs trek
Leave early morning by bus to Beshishar and further towards Ngadi on the scenic highway. Beshishar is a large town and the district headquarters of Lamjung area. The drive follows a wide dirt road for an hour or two, through the busy bazaar of Beshishar past few streams along some up’s and down’s. The track follows the river and after half an hour leads u to the overnight camping spot at Ngadi.

Day 04: JAGAT 1290m/
6 hrs trek
The trail follows a steep climb for half an hour till the lush farm terraces and then the walk becomes gradual for awhile and the going gets better. Then a half hour climb brings you at the top of Bhaundanda hill. After a short break here, we trek descend passing through yet more farm terraces till we reach Syange village. From here an hour of pleasant walk brings us to our overnight campsite at Jagat.

Day 05: DHARAPANI 1860m/
6 hrs trek
Today’s trail starts with a steep climb past several cozy teahouses till we reach a viewpoint at Taal showcasing a spectacular view of Kahng Guru. We leave after a break and get on the trail that winds uphill and downhill ending at a large bridge, from here an hour of good walk brings us to the village of Dharapani, which is located at the confluence of the tributary of Dudh Khola that Marsyangdi.

Day 06: CHAME 2670m/
5-6 hrs trek
An hour’s walk will take us to Bagarchap, altitude gains slowly as we approach the ‘apple country’ at Dhanaqi and the alpine region. More hours of walk brings you to the village town of Chame, an important place of Manang region.

Day 07: PISANG 3150m/
6 hrs trek
We continue our trek on the gradual path to the bridge, a short steep climb leads through the pine forest to the top ridge of Pisang village and to the more open valley with some pasture. While walking down from the forested area we get great views of Pisang peak in the north, Annapurna II and the Chulu Peak too can be seen, finally reaching Pisang welcomed by the long prayer wheel at the entrance.

Day 08: JHULU 3900m/
5-6 hrs trek
From Pisang, there are two paths, one that leads to Chulu Base Camp and the other to Manang, we get on one of those trails sepending upon the condition. From the outskirts of Pisang village the road diverts above the Marsyangdi river. Whichever the route is taken, both the trails offer outstanding sceneries of the surrounding landscapes eventually merging just above Nagawa village, from where we head northwest on arid slopes and hills till we reach a small village of Jhulu.

Day 09: JHULU 3900m
Rest and acclimatization
A day of rest and acclimatization is a must due to the altitude and thinner air. There are good places for a short hike with surrounding superb views of the snowcapped mountains.

Day 10: CHULU EAST BASE CAMP 4700m
Today’s walk leaves the last village in the area entering complete wilderness on the barren landscapes with views of both Chulus and the peaks of Annapurnas. The walk meanders up a steep climb for an hour with few gradual portions entering the valley that runs up toward the col between the east and far east peaks of Chulu where we shall establish the Base Camp for the climb.

Day 11: CHULU HIGH CAMP 5300m/
3-4 hrs of strenuous walk/climb
The ill defined path climbs up following the Chegaji Khola (river) finally arriving at moraines below the col after three to four hours of strenuous walk. The High Camp here forms a launching site for, both, the southwest ridge of Chulu Far East as well as for our climb from the east ridge of Chulu East Peak.

Day 12: HIGH CAMP 5300m/17388ft
Rest, acclimatization and climb preparation
A day of rest and acclimatization and to prepare our equipment for tomorrow’s climb. Our Sherpas, who are professional mountain guides, will scout the area to decide upon the climb route and to fix ropes where necessary.

Day 13-15: CHULU EAST SUMMIT 6200m/20341ft
Climb to the summit
The route continues up the snow y ridge to the summit which is exposed at first but can be climbed without much difficulty. On reaching the top, great panoramic views of the surrounding snowcapped mountains and the valley below await us. After a memorable moment at the summit we descend back to Base Camp for the overnight camp.

These three days has been set aside for climbing to allow climbers ample time to prepare for the ascent of Chulu to make the trip itinerary more flexible.

Day 16: MANANG 3250m/
4-5 hrs trek
From the Base Camp our trek descends steeply under the gaze of astounding snowcapped peaks. The trek is more or less gradual on the wide path most of the way to Manang via the village of Braga, from where it is only an hour’s walk to Manang for the overnight stop.

Day 17: THORUNG PHEDI 4400m/14436ft
6 hrs trek via Yak Kharka 4130m/13550ft
Today’s walk starts with beautiful views of the Annapurna II, Gangapurna, Tiloche and the close up view of Chuli mid and west as the trail heads up towards the barren windswept terrain that has only juniper bushes as the surviving vegetation in the vicinity, finally coming to the small settlement of Yak-Kharka. From here the gentle path leads to a descent by the stream followed by a steep climb till Thorang Phedi, meaning ‘bottom of the Thorang-la pass’.

Day 18: MUKTINATH 3800m/12467ft
6-8 hrs trek via Thorang-La 5415m/17766ft
Start trekking very early in the morning before the break of dawn, with the magnificent views of the northern Annapurna, Damudhar, Bhirkuti and Dhaulagiri range. Walk continues on the narrow gradual track reaching to the height of 5415m/ at Thorang-La. After a short break here we continue on the steep and gradual descent to Muktinath, the holiest of all holy places, during auspicious time as per Hindu and Buddhist calendar when it is busy and crowded with pilgrims from Nepal and India.

Day 19: JOMSOM 2730m/8957ft
3-4 hrs trek
Journey carries on with a descent of 1200m to the Kaligandaki River valley floor, where we follow the gentle trail for another two hours to the large town of Jomsom, the headquarter of the Mustang region with a small airstrip just above the Kaligandaki River.

Day 20: POKHARA 950m/3117ft
25 minutes scenic flight
Leave early in the day for the scenic sweeping flight to Pokhara, where on arrival you’ll be transferred to your hotel, with afternoon free for individual activities and to marvel the grand views of Annapurna and Mananslu mountain ranges topped by the majestic view of looming Machhapuchare (Fish Tail)

Day 21: KATHMANDU 1336m/4383ft
5-6 hrs bus ride along a scenic highway
The bus ride from Pokhara along the bank of Marsyangdi then Trishuli river under the Himalayan foothills is very pleasant and enjoyable. The panoramic views of the snowcapped peaks, looming over distant hills, continue to be seen. On arrival at Kathmandu check into your hotel after a great time in the mountains.

Day 22: KATHMANDU 1336m/4383ft
Leisure day. Options: mountain flight or sightseeing tour
A free day in Kathmandu, please inform our staff if you would like to go for a short tour of the city in and around Kathmandu Valley or take an early morning mountain flight to view Mt Everest and other Himalayan giants.

Day 23: KATHMANDU 1336m/4383ft
Transfer to airport for International departure.
As per your international flight time, keep your confirmed air ticket and your passport handy. Our staff will take you to the airport for your final departure from the land of Himalayas.
